Title: <\/b>Standard for Vehicle to Vehicle Communications for Unmanned Aircraft Systems<\/p>\n
Scope:\u00a0<\/b>Vehicle to Vehicle Communications (V2V) standard for Unmanned Aircraft Systems defines the protocol for exchanging information between the vehicles. The information exchange will facilitate beyond line of sight (BLOS) and beyond radio line of sight (BRLOS) communications. The information exchanged between the aircraft may be for the purpose of command, control, and navigation or for any application specific purpose.<\/p>\n
Need for the Project:\u00a0<\/b>No standard exists for V2V communications for unmanned systems as of now. The proposed V2V standard fills this need and provides a means to share mission-critical information among unmanned aircraft systems. Many organizations identified the need for standards for V2V
\ncommunications in the context of beyond radio line of sight (BRLOS) communications.<\/p>\n
1. The IEEE 1920.1 working group realized the need for developing V2V
\nstandard.
\n2. The IEEE 1609 working group gave a good feedback when it was briefed on V2V for Drones.
\n3. The UAS EXCOM Science and Research Panel (SARP) in a recent meeting highlighted
\nthe need for V2V for UAS.
\n4. The VTS ad hoc committee on drones discussed this PAR before its submission and felt this is an important step for drone traffic management.
\n5. The UAS Traffic Management (UTM) project led by NASA also emphasizes the need for V2V communications for drones.
