ICICLE Update and August 2025 Community Call with Avron Barr, AI and the Future of Education expert and editor of “The Handbook of AI,” on the adoption of learning technology standards
The ICICLE monthly community call is August 20th at 12pm ET. As a group, we have been exploring learning technology standards in the learning engineering process yet how are these standards operationalized? Avron Barr, an AI and Future of Education expert and editor of The Handbook of AI, will provide an overview of how standards go from publication to broad adoption. As former chair of the IEEE Standard Association Learning Technology Standards Committee, Avron has been working on standards development for over twenty years.
How do standards get implemented and adopted by vendors? What business and market problems could standards address? What are the benefits of customers insisting that products that they purchase conform to relevant standards? Avron will address these questions and provide recommendations what ICICLE’s role could be in promoting the adoption of learning technology standards,
We’ll be meeting via Webex. (See details below with meeting code and password.) It is scheduled for one hour’s length. Full agenda will be posted here
The IEEE ICICLE Government and Military Market Interest Group (MIG) co-chairs, Eric Ultes and Jason Virtue, led an Invitation to Learning Engineering webinar: Applying Learning Engineering to Mission Critical Environments last month. Kevin Owens from the Applied Research Laboratories at the University of Texas, a U.S. Department of Defense University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) presented a case study on a proposed set of learning readiness measures to augment existing technology and human-factors readiness measures to integrate learning engineering into those existing processes. Watch the recording and review the presentation.
Check out the other Invitation to Learning Engineering webinar series with case studies in pK-12 and higher education.
DJ Jaegar shared a post in LinkedIn about how the ICICLE Workforce Market Interest Group is working with learning and development professionals in exploring learning engineering.
In eLearning Industry Samir Das explores in Learning Engineering: Bridging Design, Data, And Science the application of IEEE‑inspired human-centered Learning Engineering to transform learning and development experiences with adaptive feedback loops
