ICICLE Update and March 2026 Community Call with Kursat Cagiltay, Dean of Faculty of Education at TED (Turkish Education Association) University, on their Learning Engineering driven transformation in pre-service teacher education program

The ICICLE monthly community call is March 18th at 12pm ET. We’re excited for Dr. Kursat Cagiltay, Dean of Faculty of Education, TED (Turkish Education Association) University in Turkiye, to join the community call this month as our guest speaker. Kursat will present the learning engineering–driven transformation that they have initiated in their pre-service teacher education program at the Faculty of Education at TED University. He will share their TED Teacher+ vision, the integration of learning engineering competencies into their programs, and the early outcomes of this systemic change process.

Join the call to explore how faculties of education can evolve into evidence-based, technology-enhanced, future-ready learning ecosystems. Bring your questions and share your thoughts.

We’ll be meeting via Webex for the community call. (See details below with meeting code and password.) It is scheduled for one hour’s length. Full agenda will be posted here.

Learning about Learning Engineering

ASU Learning Engineering Institute hosted the Learning Engineering Research Network (LERN) Convening “From Insights to Implementation: Learning Engineering in Action” in February 2026.The convening showcased presentations, posters, a debate, panel discussions and keynotes about advancing learning engineering by translating interdisciplinary research into practical solutions that strengthen learning ecosystems. Learn more about the convening in the LERN proceedings.

The Learning Engineering Body of Knowledge was launched at the ASU LERN convening. It was designed and launched by Jim Goodell, lead editor of Learning Engineering Toolkit. The purpose is to define key knowledge areas and topics in learning engineering to promote a consistent view of learning engineering worldwide and position learning engineering as a multi-disciplinary process and practice. Explore it to build your knowledge on learning engineering.

At Learning Engineering Research Round-Up session on Tuesday, March 17 from 11am-12pm ET, co-chair of the Tools SIG, Baptiste Moreau-Pernet, and Gordon Stein, both with the Learning Engineering Virtual Institute’s (LEVI) Engineering Hub, will discuss two technical papers focusing on AI and education, with a particular emphasis on mathematics. You can register for the event here

Invitation to Learning Engineering Webinar Announcement

The Adapting Learning Engineering in a Global ContextInvitation to Learning Engineering webinar was hosted by the IEEE ICICLE Globalisation Special Interest Group on February 25th, 2026. Carolina Ali Fojaco, Chief Learning Officer at Project Alianza, gave a deep dive on how they used learning engineering to iterate and scale AnGo, an offline, AI-assisted literacy app to help children in Central America build foundational reading skills.

If you missed the webinar, you can view the recording and presentation. Watch more webinars hosted by the pK-12, Workforce, Military and Government and Higher Education special interest groups in the Invitation to Learning Engineering webinar series.

Prediction LE

The Institute for Infrastructure and Interoperable Data in Learning has made 10 predictions in 2026. Prediction #5 is Learning Engineering Will Gain Institutional Momentum, especially in Military and Academic Sectors. They predict that learning engineering will cross a threshold in 2026. They expect to see learning engineering in more job postings, conference tracks, and university programs than ever before. What do you think about this prediction? Share your thoughts on Linkedin.

Special and Market Interest Group Work

Special Interest Groups and Market Interest Groups is where much of the work in ICICLE happens. The groups develop resources and document experiences for the learning engineering community. Participate in one, two or all of them.
