ICICLE Update and August 19th 2026 Community Call with Eric Ultes, Co-Chair of Government and Military SIG, on a ‘Multi-Disciplinary Approach for Data Governance, Security, and Sovereignty’
The ICICLE monthly community call is August 19th at 12pm ET. We are excited that Eric Ultes, co-chair of the Government and Military Special Interest Group and with CAE, will discuss a multi-disciplinary approach that is needed for data governance, security, and sovereignty. He’ll talk about considerations for related standards of practice, including IEEE 15288 for Systems Engineering, DAMA for Data Analytics Body of Knowledge and PMI for Project Management Body of Knowledge. The key takeaway of his discussion will be that these various disciplines need to align early during planning and design to avoid working in contest with each other that could ultimately hurt the end user.

ICICLE Design Special Interest Group is facilitating a webinar on the use of Learning Engineering to Shape AI Systems for Learning on Thursday, August 20th at 12:00pmET/9amPT as part of our Invitation to Learning Engineering series. Engage with the Learning Engineering Community
The third Learning Engineering Research Network (LERN) Convening, organized by the ASU Learning Engineering Institute will be held February 2nd-4th, 2027. The conference is dedicated to advancing high-quality research in learning engineering. It offers an interdisciplinary outlet for research in cognitive science, educational science, and design sciences, with a focus on developing effective learning environments that address educational challenges. The conference is currently accepting submissions of papers, posters, and panels that showcase effective, data-driven processes and best practices. Submission deadline is November 1st, 2026.
