The ICICLE monthly community call is February 17th at 12 pm ET. We’re excited to have Bob Sottilare, Director of Learning Sciences at Soar Technology join us. He’ll be speaking on Adaptive Instructional Systems (AIS) and about the newly formed AIS Consortium, a 501.c.6 alliance under IEEE Industry Standards Technology Organization, to support the adoption and advancement of products that use artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to help people learn.
ICICLE has a Podcast!
We are thrilled to announce that ICICLE has started the IEEE Learning Engineering Podcast! The first episode explores What is Learning Engineering? People from many different disciplines including instructional design, data architecture, xAPI, online learning, corporate training, adaptive instructional systems have participated in ICICLE efforts and events. Michael Jay, ICICLE chair, CEO of MatchMaker Education Labs PBC, spoke with ICICLE SIG current and former chairs, Michelle Barrett, VP of Research and Learning Engineering at Edmentum, Jim Goodell, Sr. Analyst at (QIP) Quality Information Partners, and Aaron Kessler, Senior Learning Scientist at MIT about their thoughts on What is Learning Engineering?
Learning Engineering Updates
Empowering Teachers as Learning Engineers (Without Adding More Work) by Jessie Woolley-Wilson discusses that how by empowering teachers with skills and actionable data they can guide students in their learning and appropriately adapt lessons and instruction to move beyond what schooling could look like to what it should look like.
Our friends at IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies have a call for papers for a special issue on Designing Technologies to Support Professional and Workplace Learning for Situated Practice to showcase developments and innovations in, and advance the scientific discourse on issues specific to, designing technologies that support learning for work. Abstract submission is April 15th, 2021.
Two Learning Engineer positions are open! Edmentum has a position to apply learning sciences to their learning platforms with human-centered engineering design methods and data-informed decision making to support learners. The Learning Agency is looking for someone to lead their Learning Engineering work. We encourage you to apply.
We welcome everyone’s participation in the SIGs.
The Competencies, Curriculum, and Credentials SIG is compiling learning engineering related competencies. The next meeting is scheduled on Friday, February 12th at 2pm ET. Meeting link is in SIG notes.
The Corporate MIG (market interest group) connects groups interested in or applying learning engineering. Links to recordings and documentation are in the meeting notes. Please contact Jessie Chuang for more information.
The Design SIG is sharing experiences and examples of the application of ICICLE‘s Learning Engineering Process Model. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 23th at 2 pm. Meeting link is in the Agenda and Meeting Notes.
Join the community call on February 17th with Bob Sottilare speaking about AIS and check out our first IEEE Learning Engineering Podcast. Let us know what you think is learning engineering in addition to what was said on the podcast. Share your thoughts at the monthly meeting, LinkedIn, Twitter or contact us.
