ICICLE November 15th 2023 Community Call: K12 Open Context Exchange\u00a0with\u00a0Michael\u00a0Collins, a founder of OER Schema, and Steve Midgley, founder and managing director of Learning Tapestry\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The ICICLE monthly community call is\u00a0November 15th at 12pm ET<\/strong>. This month we’ll be showcasing\u00a0a specification\u00a0and metadata\u00a0for OERs (Open Educational Resources).\u00a0We are thrilled to have\u00a0Michael Collins<\/a>, a founder of\u00a0OER schema<\/a>\u00a0and an Associate Teaching Professor of Art and Digital Arts & Media Design, Penn State University, and\u00a0Steve Midgley<\/a>, founder and managing director of\u00a0Learning Tapestry<\/a>, an educational innovation company.

Learning Tapestry<\/a>\u00a0develops solutions for complex technology-based educational ecosystems and\u00a0is currently working on\u00a0K12 Open Context Exchange<\/a>\u00a0(OCX), a specification for publishing OER\u00a0on the web and packaging that OER for exchange with other parties. The goal of\u00a0OER schema<\/a>\u00a0is to unify OER content on the web to a standard vocabulary to enhance its discoverability in\u00a0indexes and allow content to be more easily remixed and re-purposed.\u00a0In Michael’s words, \u201cthis OER schema project is an exhilarating ontological romp through pedagogical metadata.\u201d\u00a0

Steve and Michael will be describing the\u00a0OCX<\/a>\u00a0system and showcasing the\u00a0OER schema<\/a>\u00a0in use via the\u00a0OCX<\/a>\u00a0 system.\u00a0

Learning Engineering Virtual Institute<\/em>
The Learning Engineering Virtual Institute<\/a> (LEVI) aims to create interventions that will double the rate of middle school math progress for low-income students. LEVI selected a cohort of seven teams<\/a> that are committed to harnessing the potential of AI and machine learning to enhance middle school math education: Carnegie Learning<\/a>, Carnegie Mellon University<\/a>, Eedi<\/a>, Rising Academies<\/a>, University of Colorado Boulder<\/a>, Khan Academy<\/a>, and University of Florida<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
