P1950.1 Working Group

Smart cities are complex and dynamic urban environments where people, places and things connect to promote economic development, quality of life, and an attractive environment for residents, businesses, and visitors. Ecosystems generally converge in urban areas creating both opportunities and challenges. A transdisciplinary view across interconnected ecosystems, converged networks, and governance functions may highlight city priorities, capabilities, and constraints. Cities may focus on their unique priorities within a varied technological landscape across the globe through a sustainable standard that is structured, flexible, adaptable, and scalable.

This standard specifies the architectural and functional framework for Smart Cities. The framework addresses the communications systems aspects for Smart city ecosystems and key components of each ecosystem. These communication systems components include network access, service delivery, network and service management, and network extensions. The standard also includes Smart City relevant terms and definitions.

The purpose of this standard is to provide a common view of smart city architectures and functionalities.
