IEEE P3547 Recommended Practice for COTS-ESS for Rail Safety-Related Applic…

Title: Recommended Practice for Using Commercial-Off-The-Shelf Electronic System and Software for Rail Safety-Related Application

Scope:  This recommended practice establishes a preferred system perspective requirements for the application of Commercial-off-the-shelf Electronic System and Software (COTS-ESS) in rail safety related applications. This recommended practice is applicable to vital safety related applications with COTS-ESS (such as safety positioning based on Global Navigation Satellite System and electronic beacon) for onboard and wayside equipment in high-speed train and maglev. This recommended practice does not impose constraints on Commercial-Off-The-Shelf Electronic system & software itself. The recommended practice does not require COTS-ESS to meet specific safety requirements for rail. Instead, the recommended practice achieves fault detection and safety response through specialized safety monitoring and other means. This recommended practice does not define specific safety targets for application systems, but instead it proposes safety-related conditions for application systems.
