Vehicular Technology Society - Automated Vehicles Standards Committee

Welcome to the homepage for the IEEE VT/AVSC Standards Committee.

Mission: Automated Vehicles (AVs) pose great opportunities to improve safety, efficiency and energy consumption of transportation systems. However, this technology is still in its infancy. There is a lack of standardized best practices on how to develop, test and validate AVs, how to ensure interoperability and how to guarantee safety and reliability. The Vehicular Technology Society\ Automated Vehicles Standards Committee  (VTS\AV) supports the development of technical standards that address these challenges.  Some of the targeted standardization areas include (but are not limited to):

  • Automated vehicular systems and technologies
  • Interoperability
  • Sensing, detection, controls and decision-making,
    1. artificial intelligence
    2. machine learning
    3. reliability of sensing and decision-making
    4. test and verification, including experimental and virtual techniques
  • Human-vehicular interaction
    1. Human characteristics and behavior
  • Information exchange
    1. data formats for information exchange
    2. protection of privacy and data
  • Vehicle power systems

Ongoing Standards Projects

  • P2846 Assumptions for Models in Safety-Related Automated Vehicle Behavior
  • P2936 – Standard for Test Methods of Automotive Lidar Performance
  • P2979 – Edge Intelligent Terminal for Highway Cooperative Transportation
  • P3116 -Standard for Automotive Radar Performance Metrics and Testing Methods for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Automated Driving System (ADS) Applications
