About the Conference

The ICICLE’s Learning Engineering conference revolves around the overarching theme of “Solving Complexity at Scale,” focusing on solving the implicit complexity of learning challenges at different scales, from the individual tutor to massive open online courses and everything in between. The conference covers a blend of theoretical insights and practical applications across topics related to the learning engineering process, learning sciences, learning analytics, cognitive science, teamwork, technology innovations, and human-centered learning.

Engaging sessions, such as Lightening Talks, Show and Share Presentations, Active Learning Sessions, Stations of Exploration, and Showcase Your Work, will actively involve participants and contribute to the advancement of learning engineering. This is not a Sit and Get conference, so be ready to engage! Submit a proposal! Check out our 2022 and 2023 conferences to learn more about the sessions and structure of the conference.

The conference is for a diverse audience of learning professionals, including educators, learning scientists, software engineers, data scientists, students, researchers, instructional designers, and anyone intrigued by the world of learning engineering. It aims to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange by providing a platform for attendees to share their work, learn from others’ experiences, pose questions, and broaden their understanding of learning engineering as well as build a vibrant learning engineering community that extends beyond the conference itself.

Whether you are a seasoned practitioner, a scholar, or a curious learner, ICICLE’s 2024 Learning Engineering conference provides a unique opportunity to delve into the multifaceted world of learning engineering.

  • Active Learning Session — (60 minutes) Lead an activity-based learning session with a defined objective, strategy, and product/performance.
  • Exploration Stations –(30 minutes–breakout sessions only) Facilitate a discussion around your passion with a whole breakout room or in small groups at tables. The key is to provide participants an opportunity to spend time talking to each other.
  • Lightning Talks — (5 minutes) Deliver a very short presentation (no more than 5 slides) on one or two key points
  • Show and Share — (15 minutes with 5 minutes Q&A) Present on your case study, research, project, process, failures, or lessons learned using learning engineering.
  • Showcase Your Work (aka Poster) session — Spotlight your work in a poster session format, with or without a poster. You can stand by your poster, facilitate a tech demo, or present another type of visual. Great for more intimate conversations about your work.
  • Structured Panel — (60 minutes) Moderate a panel of 2-5 experts to discuss a topic related to learning engineering. Plan for audience interaction with Q&A.
