ICICLE November 2024 Community Call: Will Thalheimer, Consultant, Speaker, Researcher on Learning-Evaluation at Work-Learning Research

The ICICLE monthly community call is November 20th at 12pm ET. We are excited that Will Thalheimer is our guest speaker. Will is one of the leading innovators in workplace learning evaluation. He created a distinctive questioning approach outlined in his book, Performance-Focused Learner Surveys: Using Distinctive Questioning to Get Actionable Data and Guide Learning Effectiveness, an evaluation framework that brings learning wisdom back into the learning-evaluation process, LTEM (the Learning Transfer Evaluation Model), and a new evaluation approach called LEADS (Learning Evaluation As Decision Support) described in his new book, The CEO’s Guide to Training, eLearning & Work: Empowering Learning for a Competitive Advantage. He’ll share with us a number of ideas about learning evaluation, data for decision-making, and impact, discussing their importance and relevance to learning engineering.

We’ll be meeting via Webex for the community call. (See details below with meeting code and password.) It is scheduled for one hour’s length. Full agenda will be posted here.

An Invitation to Learning Engineering

Members of the IEEE Learning Engineering community (ICICLE) are facilitating an event on how you can get engaged with Learning Engineering (LE) on Wednesday 11 December at 1pmET/10amPT. This session will provide an overview of Learning Engineering, share a use case on the application of Learning Engineering, discuss that use case from a variety of perspectives, and open the floor to participants to pose questions and discuss all things LE. This session will highlight a use case from Carnegie Learning and will feature Steve Ritter, Carnegie Learning’s Founder and Chief Scientist. You can register here.

Learning and Talking about Learning Engineering

The “Learning Engineering Applies the Learning Sciences” chapter in the Learning Engineering Toolkit is now available as an open access. Read the chapter for free to learn more about how learning engineering applies the learning sciences.

The “What is Learning Engineering?” discussion during the Learning Agency’s Learning Engineering virtual networking sessions is now being led by Michael Jay, chair of ICICLE on the first Wednesday of the month at 1pm ET. Connect with newcomers to experts interested in learning engineering for an engaging, fun conversation and sharing of ideas and resources. Register here.

Where are you talking about learning engineering? Members of the ICICLE community recently presented at AECTDevLearn, and ATD Cascadia Conference and upcoming will be at Learning 2024I/ITSEC, and OEB Berlin. Let us know where you are speaking about learning engineering.

Special and Market Interest Group Work

Special Interest Groups and Market Interest Groups is where much of the work in ICICLE happens. The groups develop resources and document experiences for the learning engineering community. Participate in one, two or all of them. Please check SIG/MIG page for general information and the website for updates to meeting days/times. (Times are in Eastern Time.)
