ICICLE December 2024 Community Call: “An Invitation to Learning Engineering” with Carnegie Learning
The ICICLE monthly community call is December 18th at 12pm ET. We welcome the community to continue our discussion that began at the “Invitation to Learning Engineering” webinar on December 11th, 2024. The webinar provided an overview of learning engineering by members of our community, explored how learning engineering is shaping the future of education, and highlighted a use case from Carnegie Learning. The case study featured Steve Ritter, Founder & Chief Scientist, Husni Almoubayyed, AI Engineering Manager, and Rae Bastoni, Senior UX Researcher. They showcased insights from the work on facilitating math learning with adaptive reading supports. They will join the community call for further conversation. Whether you’re new to Learning Engineering or an experienced practitioner, the session offered something for everyone. Watch the recording and review the presentation.
We’ll be meeting via Webex for the community call. It is scheduled for one hour’s length. Full agenda will be posted here.
Learning Engineering Toolkit Open Access Chapters
Exciting news! THREE chapters in the Learning Engineering Toolkit are now available as open access:
- Introduction: What is Learning Engineering?
- Learning Engineering Applies the Learning Sciences
- Learning Engineering is a Process
Which is your favorite chapter? What have learned? Join the monthly call or participate in a SIG/MIG meeting to share how you are applying learning engineering to your challenge or opportunity.
Learning Engineering at Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC)
Lots of discussions and papers about the application of learning engineering at I/ITSEC conference. Although the focus at I/ITSEC is a military environment, the application can be applied across sectors:
- Generalizable Learning Engineering Adoption Maturity Model paper outlines a learning engineering maturity model for any organization in any sector.
- Implementing Learning in Military Environments: An Operational & Tactical Perspectivepanel had many takeaways, explained in this podcast.
- Learning Engineering Competency-Based Experiential Learning within Institutional Military Education paper is a case study on a science and technology learning model.
- Mission XRpossible: Navigating Novice-to-Expert Assessment Design in Medical & Military Training tutorial explains the fundamental principles of assessment science and the practice of designing assessments within XR contexts.
- Applying Learning Engineering Process to Existing Military Training Programs: F-35 Demonstration paper explains key steps in create a training structure, process, and pathway.
Special and Market Interest Group Work
Special Interest Groups and Market Interest Groups is where much of the work in ICICLE happens. The groups develop resources and document experiences for the learning engineering community. Participate in one, two or all of them.
